DeskFold — Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 3, 2026
DeskFold is a Windows desktop utility. It is built to work locally: your data stays on your PC.
What DeskFold stores (locally only)
- Preferences and layout — folder widgets, panel configuration, keybindings, desktops, and settings are stored in a local database under %LOCALAPPDATA%\DeskFold. This data never leaves your machine.
- Recents information — DeskFold reads Windows' existing recent-files, launcher, and browser-history data on your PC to render its widgets. This is read locally, displayed locally, and never uploaded.
- Session logs — diagnostic logs are written to your temp folder to help troubleshoot problems. They are never transmitted automatically.
What leaves your PC (only when you act)
- Feedback you choose to send — the feedback form saves your answers locally and opens a pre-filled email draft in your mail app. Nothing is sent unless you press Send in that draft.
- Purchases — supporter purchases are processed entirely by the Microsoft Store (Store version) or by Lemon Squeezy, our merchant of record (website version). DeskFold never sees or stores payment details. The website version validates your license key with Lemon Squeezy's servers when you activate it and periodically afterwards; only the key itself is transmitted.
- Optional third-party downloads — if you explicitly ask DeskFold to set up OBS Studio (obsproject.com), Everything (voidtools.com), or Nilesoft Shell (nilesoft.org), DeskFold downloads those tools from their official sources after showing you a confirmation dialog. No download happens without your explicit consent.
What DeskFold does NOT do
- No analytics, no telemetry, no tracking, no ads.
- No account, no sign-up, no personal data collection.
- No selling or sharing of any data with anyone.
